In the aerospace and defense sector, speed, safety, and accuracy are non-negotiable. Even small gaps in internal processes can have a big impact. Companies in this space handle sensitive data and work on projects where delays or mistakes are costly. Industry studies show that nearly 60% of aerospace and defense companies report delays in giving new hires access to systems during their first week, leading to wasted time and frustration.
For growing organizations, managing employee access to systems is often a hidden challenge. New hires can spend days waiting for their accounts to be set up. Employees who switch projects may get locked out of the tools they need or keep access to systems they no longer use. Offboarding is another critical pain point if accounts aren’t shut down quickly when people leave, which can lead to compliance and security risks.
Hermeus Corporation saw these problems early and decided to strengthen its internal systems. The company knew that if it wanted to focus on building the world’s fastest aircraft, it couldn’t afford to waste time on inefficient processes.
Hermeus Corporation was founded in 2018 in Atlanta with a bold mission: make hypersonic flight a reality. The company is building aircraft capable of flying at Mach 5, five times the speed of sound with the goal of reducing long-haul international flights from hours to minutes.
Its key programs include:
Quarterhorse – A series of demonstrators to validate hypersonic technologies.
Darkhorse – An uncrewed, reusable hypersonic aircraft for defense and intelligence missions.
Halcyon – A future passenger aircraft designed to reduce transatlantic flights to just 90 minutes.
At Hermeus corporation, the main work is the Chimera engine, a technology that makes hypersonic airplanes in combination with cycle engine that can switch between turbojet and ramjet modes.
But while the engineering team focused on solving those big technical challenges, the company was worried on the very basic issues like how the employees will get access to the right systems at the right time, without any delays.
As the company grew, these problems started to add up:
To fix these issues, Hermeus corporation collaborated with Hire2Retire for the solution. The connection of ADP with Entra ID (Azure AD) helped in account access become automated instead of handled manually.
When ADP was connected with Entra ID, HR updates started flowing directly into the access system. If someone was added, moved, or removed in ADP, their access changed automatically in Entra ID. It cut down on errors and meant the IT team didn’t have to keep doing the same manual work again.
New employees no longer had to wait around. Their logins were ready on the first day. When people left, their accounts were shut off right away instead of sitting open for days. IT staff stopped spending so much time creating and deleting accounts and could finally put their focus back on supporting engineering and testing. Employees also noticed the difference because they weren’t stuck waiting for permissions.
At Hermeus corporation, onboarding time for new employees dropped by over 70%, and IT reclaimed nearly 15 hours a week that had been spent on manual account changes.
Most importantly, the setup didn’t just fix today’s issues. It gave Hermeus a way to keep growing without adding a pile of new problems.
Hermeus corporation didn’t approach this as just another IT upgrade. It was about removing the everyday problems that slow people down and making sure security wasn’t left to chance. By automating account access, the company made life easier for its teams and built a stronger base to keep pushing forward on its goal of developing the fastest aircraft in the world.
