Robust internal operations and clinical precision are essential components for the development of innovative therapeutic and diagnostic tools. Organizations must be able to securely and timely access their internal systems as they implement operational improvement efforts across Research, Manufacturing, & Commercial teams. This ensures the company runs efficiently and that sensitive data remains safe.

Zomedica Pharmaceuticals needed to improve its employee onboarding process for both HR and IT systems in order to meet continued growth and allow them to maintain the proper level of security and compliance.

About Zomedica Pharmaceuticals

Zomedica Pharmaceuticals is committed to developing and commercializing products exclusively in the veterinary pharmaceutical industry. The organization focuses on addressing unmet needs in veterinary medicine by developing diagnostic and therapeutic products for companion and equine animals.

Its product portfolio includes:

These offerings support veterinary professionals while handling sensitive clinical, diagnostic, and product-related data.

Zomedica employs teams across research and development, regulatory affairs, manufacturing, and commercial operations. All teams rely on secure and role-appropriate access to internal systems and applications.

Access and Identity Challenges

Managing identity and access to systems was becoming increasingly difficult as Zomedica continued to grow in both its product offerings and employee count. HR and IT relied on separate processes for provisioning, updating, and disabling user access, which led to delays and inconsistencies.

For example, when an employee starts work at Zomedica, they may not have all the access they needed on their first day. This affects the efficiency of onboarding and impacted productivity. As a result, new hires experienced delays of up to 1–2 business days in receiving full system access. When an employee was promoted or took on a new role, IT had to manually update access. This made access changes slower and increased the administrative burden on IT teams.

Another area of concern was ensuring employee access was fully removed when someone left the company. Not removing access on time can create an unnecessary security risk in the heavily regulated environment of healthcare.

Implementing Hire2Retire at Zomedica

To better manage identity and access to systems and to automate identity lifecycle management between Paycor and Hybrid Active Directory, Zomedica utilized RoboMQ’s Hire2Retire solution. The HR department is now the source of truth for employee records in the HR system. This data is used as the basis for reviewing and updating employee access across IT systems.

When an employee’s user account is created, that data is pulled from the HR System. When there is a change of role, the information is updated based on HR data. If an employee leaves, the account will be disabled immediately. This reduced access deprovisioning time from several hours or days to near real-time.

This also removed the manual handoff of employee data between HR and IT.
As a result, access management processes became more consistent across Zomedica’s IT systems.

Impact on Operations and Security

Zomedica implemented Hire2Retire to provide operational efficiencies and improved security through the following means:

With these improvements, operational teams spent less time on routine access administration. This allowed them to focus on higher-value initiatives. Overall, Zomedica achieved faster onboarding, stronger access governance, and measurable operational efficiency within the first 90 days of implementation.

Benefits After Implementation

The implementation of automated identity lifecycle management created new opportunities to improve internal operations. It also supported continued innovation within veterinary medicine. Streamlined onboarding, role changes and offboarding have improved security, reduced the amount of operational friction, and created a more reliable employee experience.

Automated lifecycle processes also reduced identity-related support tickets by an estimated 30-40%. Zomedica’s approach enables the organization to grow safely and efficiently. It also empowers veterinary professionals to innovate and deliver services.
