Situation

Hudson Headwaters Health Network is on a mission to provide care to everyone in the communities they serve, regardless of income or insurance. Hudson Headwaters is the sole medical provider in much of the 7200 square miles rural, medically underserved region that it serves. It provides primary healthcare services to more than 1200 patients a day across a system of 21 nonprofit community health centers, for which it employs more than 850 healthcare workers and medical staff.

As a premier healthcare provider, Hudson Headwaters abides by the quality & compliance standards set by regulatory organizations like the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA), Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

Struggles and Pains

To accomplish this mission, it required a tremendous effort behind the scenes to enable its healthcare staff across the health center network with timely access to patient information that would help in increased communication with patients and care management teams. Also, enforcing strict role-based access control systems to eliminate potential data security issues was a critical need to continue to provide trusted care to its patient base.

However, the existing manual process of employee onboarding and offboarding was a bottleneck in providing timely and accurate role-based access and rights to the patient information. It created a security risk and a potential vulnerability or threat to its ability to protect and safeguard patient data.

Resolution

Hudson Headwaters Health Network sought to efficiently automate its process to create employee identities and manage custom roles and rights for its healthcare staff.

Using RoboMQ’s Employee Lifecycle Management and Identity Provisioning solution, Hudson Headwaters Health Network automated onboarding, offboarding and profile updates of its employees, which ensured timely, accurate, and role-based access on a “need to know basis” the patient data eliminating patient data security issues and helping Hudson Headwaters ensure compliance with regulatory and privacy requirements.

RoboMQ’s Integration solution helped the organization in the following ways:

  •

Quick employee onboarding and offboarding with timely and privileged access to patient data and reports.
